Recently JigSaw made some great changes, and one of them is the decision to let crawlers index its contact pages. I’ve been playing with their recent changes for a while and wanted to make sure I really had something hard hitting before I “let it loose” on the world. So here it is:
site:jigsaw.com "you've found" COMPANY NAME
That’s it. Simple and magical. Of course you would replace COMPANY NAME with the name of some target organization from which you want to source contacts. How it works is the site: command instructs the search engine to bring back only results from the JigSaw website. Pick your poison, this works on Google, Live, Yahoo and Exalead just the same, but your results will differ as there is little overlap among them.
The words "you've found" appear on all publically listed JigSaw contacts. If you leave that out you also get these “Directories” that are more of a nuisance than they are useful so don’t bother with those. Try it and you will see what I mean.
The most awesome thing is that when you click on a result that has the following format:
“Firstname Lastname in Jigsaw's Business Directory”
You can see that contacts virtual business card, which shows you the actual job title and the company name! Woo hoo!!! That’s all I need to source. Since I have a name, I can then find the company’s main number and call in to get that person on the phone.
Of course, if I have an account on JigSaw, I can use points to get their email and direct dial number or in many cases their cell phone number (many people put mobile numbers on their business cards now) as I would normally do when logged in.
BTW if you want 100 free points join JigSaw from my partners page http://www.jigsaw.com/partners/jobmachine and follow “Option 2.” If you have an account already drop me a line and I’ll tell you how you can get them.
Oh and one more thing… this works with Broadlook Diver too! I added searches like this to my “Shally’s Super Sourcing Search Strings” that can be imported into Diver. Folks receive that exclusively when they take my new Diver workshop. We had our fist event today and it went very well. Perhaps some of the participants can post a comment or two on here if they would like to tell you about it, or you can just join our mailing list and receive an announcement about our next one.

Diver shortcuts
Thanks Rithesh! I included two JigSaw search strings in the Diver shortcuts. Look for them in the "Contacts - Google" and "Contacts - Yahoo" folders.
